Hiking in Lake Chapala
Along the Chapala Lakeshore, there is a great variety of hills and trails to explore and appreciate, some of them are used for camping as they have spaces adapted for this activity, they have esplanades, and sometimes with barbecue grills. Hiking in Lake Chapala can be a lot of fun!
From small hills and routes that can last around 40 minutes to 1 hour, to longer hikes, but at the same time full of adventure and beautiful scenery, some last more than 2 hours to reach your destination, that also depends on your pace and physical condition.
Hiking is very popular in La Ribera and its surroundings and is at the same time a very healthy activity, the simple fact of walking keeps you in shape and the best thing is to have places where you can energize this activity.
One of the main circuits to perform this activity and in my opinion is the best is the “Tepalo”, which on the same road connects with other routes and makes the longest way, connecting with the Cerro el “pandito” and followed, a few meters above, the Chupinaya.
Tepalo is more visited in rainy weather, since on the way we can find waterfalls, and the scenery along with the road is much more pleasant, take a snack and enjoy the freshness of nature is an excellent therapy that not everyone can enjoy.
Other of the most popular places are Chupinaya and Mesa del Ocote, since these mountains have been traveled for a long time, the interesting thing about these two sites is that when you reach a certain height it is no longer a common hill, but it becomes a mountain range and both its fauna and vegetation change completely.
